As a start up with limited resources, we have to pick our battles. For us, it means building and maintaining apps only for the most popular platforms: BlackBerry, Android, and iPhone.
So what about everyone else?
We’ve put considerable effort into supplying an API (available at api.youmail.com) that allows developers to quickly build messaging clients that can leverage YouMail – whether it’s a full handset client, or simply integrating some interesting pieces of YouMail functionality. So we’re pleased to see a bunch of interesting handset clients now out there, including
- Cydia’s tweak for the iPhone
- An Android app, Better YouMail, written because they didn’t like our Android user interface.
- Several Windows Phone 7 apps: MagikMail, MagikMail Lite, and Visual Voicemail.
- The YouView app, with versions for Web O/S, which actually won the Palm Hot Apps contest, and Windows Mobile 6.5.
We’re hearing rumors there are others out there – if you’ve built one, let us know!
And if you’re a developer looking for ideas – talk to us, we might have a winner for you that we just haven’t been able to get to yet.
