Senior citizens are among the most vulnerable populations when it comes to unwanted robocalls and scam calls. They may be more likely to fall for scams, and can be easily confused by a high volume of unwanted calls. That’s why it’s important for senior citizens, as well as their family members and caregivers, to understand the importance of call blocking and how to protect themselves against unwanted calls.

In this article we will discuss:

How to block scam calls for seniors

One of the best ways to block unwanted calls for senior citizens is by using a call blocking app. One such app that many people recommend is YouMail, which offers a number of features to help block unwanted calls. For example, YouMail can automatically block known robocallers and telemarketers, and it also allows you to create a personal blocklist of numbers that you want to block. Additionally, YouMail can also transcribe voicemail messages, so that senior citizens can read them instead of having to listen to them, which can be especially helpful for those with hearing impairments.

Registering Seniors on the National Do Not Call Registry

Another important step senior citizens can take to protect themselves against unwanted calls is to register for the National Do Not Call Registry. This registry is a database of phone numbers that telemarketers are not allowed to call. By registering their phone number, senior citizens can reduce the number of telemarketing calls they receive. However, it’s important to note that registering for the National Do Not Call Registry will not stop all robocalls, as scammers often ignore the registry.

How to educate seniors about robocalls

Senior citizens should also be taught about robocalls, and the dangers that they can pose. They should be instructed to never give out personal information over the phone, and that if they receive a call from an unknown number, they should hang up immediately. They should also be taught to be wary of unsolicited messages, and to never click on links or download attachments from unknown sources.

Finally, it’s important to note that senior citizens should always be vigilant and to not answer calls from unknown numbers or numbers that they don’t recognize. If they do answer a robocall, they should not press any buttons, and hang up immediately.

Call blocking is an important tool for senior citizens to protect themselves against unwanted robocalls and scam calls. By using a call blocking app like YouMail, registering for the National Do Not Call Registry, and being vigilant, senior citizens can reduce the number of unwanted calls they receive and protect themselves from scammers.

  1. I continually block the nuisance calls. They come in with fake caller id’s so blocking them seems not to lessen the calls. I get a ridiculous amount of them every day. Selling medicare supplemental insurance is the latest one that uses fake names and numbers.

    1. YouMail’s free service blocks any known spammer, but doesn’t block the made up or very infrequently used caller ids. However, the paid service blocks 100% of robocallers by making them enter a code to get through. You are definitely correct that the Medicare-related spammers are obnoxious.
